the walk of a disciple

01.03.2024

Psalm 16:9-11.  Therefore, my heart is glad, and my glory rejoices; My flesh also will rest in hope. For You will not leave my soul in Sheol, nor will You allow Your Holy One to see corruption. You will show me the path of life; In Your presence is fullness of joy; At Your right hand are pleasures forevermore.
Going for a peaceful walk with a family of boys is quite different than you may imagine.  We rarely walk… and its rarely peaceful.  Sometimes survival is the only goal.   But, tucked away in between the competitions and the feats of strength are moments… snippets of laughter or discovery or challenge that make the whole trip worth it.  It’s taken me quite a few years to let go of my expectations and just enjoy the journey, but as I have done so I have begun seeing a completely different story… a story that isn’t always predictable or Instagram worthy… but yet it’s mine.
Learning to embrace our story and recognize the hand of God in it is part of learning to be a disciple.  The Bible summarizes the life of Moses with one verse… “Moses walked with The Lord and then he died.”  I want to learn to walk with The Lord.  I want to learn to be a part of His Story.  I want to let go of my expectations and be content with His presence.  I know the path will have challenges and my stamina may wane… but the joy of walking with the Lord is worth so much more than any destination I could get to on my own.
I pray over each of you the blessing of the journey.  That you would commit your footsteps to His voice and that you would be able to feel the immeasurable hope of His gaze.  Be blessed this new year… In Jesus name.  Amen.
